What is the common point between a Russian collector couple in love with the French “art de vivre”, the Da Vinci Code movie, André Lenôtre, and the famous decorator Jacques Garcia? The answer is this little treasure, Château de Villette. It’s only 40 minutes from Paris in the pretty village of Condécourt. Signatures Singulières Magazine visited Vexin to discover this.
Majestic swans glide silently over the stretch of water that borders this architectural witness to our history. The environment is peaceful, the lines of the castle harmonious. It’s hard to imagine that this place, where everything seems to have been taken for granted since its inception, has been completely rethought and redesigned; from the gardens to the door handles that adorn the interior! Like Hotel du Crillon in Paris, its renovation took 4 years. Built in the 17th century by the Mansarts (François and Jules Hardoin), the castle has now been refurnished.
The 18th century in the spotlight
Jacques Garcia has carefully selected the antique furniture. Thus inlays, Coromandel lacquers and fittings rub shoulders with the silky taffeta and other precious fabrics that adorn four-poster beds as well as the seats and windows.
A splendour of the past rediscovered
In order not to denature the space, the inground pool is equipped with a mobile stone cover that makes the pool invisible at the touch of a button, replacing it with a planted patio! Film sets sometimes bring life back to these centuries-old walls. A few lucky people can also reserve Château de Villette for a wedding but also family celebration. Provided, however, that they are very respectful.
