Nicolas Aubagnac
lighting effects

The interior architect and designer Nicolas Aubagnac has created lamps which are true “inhabited” objects. They give out light in our houses, but not just that… They are also works of art. Nicholas Aubagnac has had, for 20 years now, talented craftsmen creating these lamps from precious materials. Through each model Nicolas Aubagnac aims to highlight a particular material as well as a rare expertise.

Created by Pouenat, the lamp Eole (God of the wind in Greek mythology) is made of brushed brass.

The great “made in France” label is one that collectors and decorators recognize around the world. Like this pair of lamps made from parchment that Yves Saint Laurent ordered for his famous villa Mabrouka in Tangier. Sotheby’s sold them at the prestigious “Pierre Bergé, from one home to another” sale.

Nicolas Aubagnac’s lamps re-enchant “our interior”

Because lighting an interior is also a way to bring substance to wonder, Nicolas Aubagnac likes to remind us that a lamp “is more often off than on”. Consequently “it must be beautiful to look at and must awaken our imagination”. This is the case of the Notte lamp, whose totemic shape is sculpted in a mysterious translucent glass and adorned with graceful black volutes. These seem to dissolve like a drop of Indian ink falling into a glass of water. A poem of light.

The Theban lamps use straw marquetry to unfold their patterns of radiant suns that reflect and diffract light in an almost kinetic play. The shapes are timeless, the materials rich in sensations. © Hervé Lewandowski.
